FAQs

What is Dpay and what is it used for ?

Dpay is a payment technology used to monetize digital press that enables publishers to charge users per article or subscription via their mobile bill.

When making payments with Dpay, the amount is charged to the phone bill the user receives periodically. This enables simple, streamlined and secure payments since banking data is no longer required.

How does it work ?

Dpay

If a user browses on their mobile data network (3G/4G), Dpay technology automatically detects it and generates a user ID via the telephone number. The user accepts payment and accesses the content without having to enter any data. The user receives an SMS notification confirming payment, with the due information about the intermediaries that have participated in the charging process (service provider, total amount, contact and billing details, etc.). The amount will be shown on their phone bill.

If a user browses via WiFi (from a computer or mobile phone), there is a two-stage payment process. The user is required to enter their phone number, receives an SMS with a PIN code and types this PIN to verify payment. The user will always receive an SMS notification confirming payment with the due information about the intermediaries that have participated in the charging process (service provider, total amount, contact and billing details, etc.)

If a user has already paid before, when filling the “Your mobile phone number” field, Dpay identifies that the payment has already been made and unblocks the content with no charge.

Advantages of using Dpay

Dpay

Dpay is a transparent for users and secure for the media outlets model.

Direct Carrier Billing is a mobile phone payment system that offers a satisfactory user experience. DCB is the ideal model for small purchases (micro-payments) where speed is important. The purchasing process is turned into a fast, secure user experience.

DCB requires no bank details when making transactions, which enables consumers who do not have a credit or debit card to be charged.

Among the many advantages of this system are included:

– Reduced purchasing process: a simplified payment process represents an average gain

of 15% more users in each phase, thus increasing conversion rates.

– Security for users: There is no data required with Dpay. Users are identified via their

telephone number. This ensures transaction security because no bank information can be hacked.

– Universal technology: there are more cell phones than cards worldwide. The

integration of a 100% mobile payment method ensures chargeability of all users. Dpay is now a universal payment model since it uses a charging method that anyone can use.

– Transparent: users maintain a relationship of trust with the mobile operator that

provides them wireless connection. Payment of third-party services via their phone billing is a secure method hosted by a provider that the user already knows.

How do you configure Dpay ?

Dpay is a flexible payment method designed to monetize digital press via the user’s mobile phone bill. It is adapted to the specific needs of each media outlet by offering different types of configuration for single payments or subscriptions.

TYPES OF DPAY CONFIGURATIONS

Dpay One Click

The One Click configuration enables payments to be processed quickly and simply. Users just have to click on the pay button; the Dpay technology identifies their operator when they are browsing on a mobile network and connects with it to implement payment. The content is automatically unblocked once the transaction is accepted. No user details are needed, just the phone number when the user navigates with WiFi.

Dpay Smart

The Smart configuration enables user data to be collected by entering a required registration field (e.g.: e-mail address), that unlocks the payment button. Dpay enables the mobile number to be linked to the collected data, enriching the user’s information while maintaining a very simple payment process.

Dpay Button

The Button configuration enables the “pay with your mobile phone bill” button to be added to the newspaper’s payment process, along with other payment methods that already existed and with the registration process that is already defined. Users who choose this payment method only have to click once to accept the subscription or single payment.

How do I unregister from a subscription ?

To cancel a subscription, the user can either contact via the helpdesk number of the corresponding media outlet that appears on the confirmation message or automatically cancel at their subscriber account.

What information does the media outlet obtain from the users ?

Dpay only collects the telephone number (tokenized or as an alias) and, if required, one extra field, usually the e-mail address. This information provided by the user is the one shared with the media outlet.

What analytical information do I obtain as a media outlet ?

Dpay only collects the telephone number (tokenized or as an alias) and, if required, one extra field, usually the e-mail address. This information provided by the user is the one shared with the media outlet.

Can users be charged without their consent ?

No, users ALWAYS have to accept payment and are ALWAYS notified.

How do I know that payment has correctly been made ?

The user owning the line to be charged always receives a payment confirmation SMS with the transaction details. If the payment could not be made, an error message appears on the screen of the device used to navigate.

Can you pay with a prepaid card or only with a contract ?

Direct Carrier Billing includes contract mobile lines and prepaid cards, as long as the card has sufficient balance to cover the charge.

Where can I see my payments ?

Users can see the payments they have made during the period established by contract with their mobile operator in the monthly phone bill.

Do I have a Dpay user account ?

No. Dpay does not keep or manage user data. In per-article payments, users are given information about the specific payment. In subscriptions, an account is created with the media company that the user has paid to subscribe to with Dpay. The media outlet manages this account.
